Over the last few years, former President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have been getting closer when it comes to their political views. Now, there’s news that Musk might even become an advisor if Trump wins again in November.

Musk has been leaning more to the right lately, especially on issues like voter fraud, immigration, and supporting Trump. The Wall Street Journal looked into their friendship, how it started, and where it might be going.

According to some reports, Musk and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz have talked to Trump about a plan to invest in a project to stop voter fraud. They also mentioned an effort to convince influential business leaders not to support President Biden’s re-election.

Just two years ago, Trump and Musk were trading insults in public. But now, they’re getting along better and talking on the phone often as the election gets closer.

They’ve discussed many topics like immigration, technology, and the U.S. Space Force. Musk even calls Trump directly on his cellphone.

Trump has told Musk he wants to involve him more if he wins again in November.

Musk doesn’t want to just give money to a super PAC, which is a way for rich people to support candidates. Instead, he wants to use his influence to help Trump by getting other important people to support him.

Musk has said he’s worried about the country’s future, mostly because of what he calls the “woke mind virus” he often talks about online.

Even though Musk has donated to both Democrats and Republicans before, he announced in May 2022 that he would vote Republican because he no longer supports Democrats.

The idea of Musk being an advisor came up at a meeting at Peltz’s house in Palm Beach, Florida. They criticized Biden’s leadership while having breakfast.

Musk and his son X, along with Trump and his son Barron, were there. Musk knows Peltz through Peltz’s son Diesel, who is friends with Musk. Diesel was also at the breakfast.

If Musk becomes an advisor, it would be like what Isaac Perlmutter did during Trump’s presidency. Perlmutter advised the Department of Veterans Affairs and helped with budgets, mental health, and other matters.

This isn’t Musk’s first time working with Trump. In 2017, he was on White House business advisory groups but left after Trump pulled out of the Paris climate accord.

You can read more about their relationship and what it could mean for Musk’s businesses in the Wall Street Journal.
