During the practice session, Kirkwood and Ferrucci had a disagreement on the track. Kirkwood let another driver pass him, then Ferrucci bumped into him at a different turn. Kirkwood was upset and said Ferrucci should be removed from the series. Later, Ferrucci blocked Herta on the track, but Herta managed to pass him.
After the session, there was a brief physical altercation between Ferrucci and Kirkwood in the pitlane. Ferrucci pushed Kirkwood and used offensive language. Kirkwood walked away without responding.
Ferrucci explained his side, saying Kirkwood turned into him on purpose during the track incident. He criticized Kirkwood’s actions and said he never expected such behavior from him. Kirkwood, on the other hand, believed Ferrucci was impatient and unnecessarily aggressive on the track. He tried to talk to Ferrucci after the incident to express his concerns, but Ferrucci reacted angrily.
Herta, who was fastest in the session, joked about not knowing why Ferrucci was upset with him. He mentioned that Ferrucci passed him on the track, so he passed him back, affecting Ferrucci’s lap time. Herta emphasized focusing on their own performance rather than getting involved in Ferrucci’s behavior.
IndyCar officials decided not to take any action regarding the incident between Ferrucci and Kirkwood.
