Less than a week after Josef Newgarden won his second Indianapolis 500 race, Team Penske announced he’s staying with them for more years. Newgarden, who is from Tennessee, first joined Penske in 2017 and has won many races with them. He won the IndyCar Series title in 2017 and 2019 and has also won many poles.
Roger Penske, the team owner, said, “Josef Newgarden is a true winner, and we are excited that he will continue as a part of Team Penske for years to come.”
Newgarden said, “Driving for Roger Penske and this iconic team is a dream that I never thought I would realize.”
He added, “Our time together has been filled with hard work, teamwork and dedication; and I’m so excited that we will continue on for many more years to come. I’m sure that we can achieve much more in the future. I still believe we haven’t reached our full potential together just yet.”
Newgarden won the Indianapolis 500 race for the second time in a row, which gave Roger Penske his 20th win in that race.
Also, Newgarden made history by winning the Indy 500 and the 24 Hours at Daytona in the same season, something no other Penske driver has done before.
Currently, Newgarden is ranked seventh in the overall standings, 61 points behind the leader, Alex Palou. However, some of his points were taken away after an incident in St. Petersburg back in March.
