Malukas had a tough start to his IndyCar season when he hurt his wrist in a biking accident before the season began. This forced him to miss some races, and his team, Arrow McLaren, decided to end his contract because of this.
But now, Malukas is back and ready to race. He will be driving for Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) for the rest of the IndyCar season. His first race will be at the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey on June 23. Before that, he will practice with the team at the Milwaukee Mile on June 11.
MSR had another driver, Blomqvist, in their No. 66 car at the start of the season. But after he crashed at the Indianapolis 500, they decided to replace him with Malukas. Blomqvist’s best finish this season was 15th place.
Helio Castroneves drove for MSR at Detroit last weekend and will do so again at Road America. After that, Malukas will take over the driving duties.
The team owner, Mike Shank, said they made this change because they want to do well in the championship and earn more money. Malukas is happy to have this chance to race again after his injury.
Malukas said, “I am extremely grateful to Jim Meyer, Mike Shank, and the entire Meyer Shank Racing team for the opportunity to finish out the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. Despite setbacks earlier this year, I have been diligently focusing on my recovery, putting in the necessary effort and dedication to get back to peak condition.”
Blomqvist will still be part of the MSR team, and he might race for them in sportscar competitions in the future.
