YouTubers often do wild things to get attention, but sometimes they break the law. Alex Choi, a famous YouTuber, faced this reality recently. He got arrested for a video he posted last year where fireworks were shot at a Lamborghini from a helicopter.
The 24-year-old is accused of putting fireworks on an aircraft without permission. He appeared in court for the first time yesterday. If found guilty, he could go to prison for up to 10 years. The charges come from him not having the right permit to film and use fireworks in a helicopter.
In the video, which he later removed, Choi was driving the Lamborghini while two women in the helicopter shot fireworks at it. He said he planned the shoot and was listed as the director, so it’s hard to deny his involvement. Others in the video haven’t been charged, but the helicopter pilot lost their license because of the stunt.
Choi is known for doing risky things with cars. In 2022, he organized a Tesla meetup where someone jumped a Model S. He filmed it and put it on YouTube, showing the car hitting another parked car. Allegedly, there were passengers and even a cat in the Tesla during the jump.
Choi is famous in car enthusiast circles. He’s been part of many social media drag races and events. A couple of years ago, he raced a 1,000-horsepower Lamborghini Huracán against an 800-horsepower Dodge Polara on Hoonigan’s YouTube channel. He’s done crazy things with expensive cars for views before, but this stunt might make him reconsider his actions in the future.
