SVOLT, a pioneer in battery safety, introduced its Dragon Armor batteries in late 2022, featuring innovative cooling and pressure release mechanisms to prevent catastrophic thermal runaway.

Building on this foundation, the company has shifted its focus to rapid charging with the introduction of Short Blade prismatic cells. Challenging the industry preference for cylindrical cells, SVOLT emphasizes the superior energy density and manufacturing efficiency of its prismatic format.

The company claims to have revolutionized prismatic cell production, achieving both cost-reduction and accelerated charging speeds through undisclosed manufacturing advancements. This approach, they argue, effectively combines the advantages of cylindrical cells within a prismatic design.

SVOLT’s 6C ternary cell, employing the familiar NMC chemistry, is generating significant buzz. This battery boasts an impressive charging speed, capable of reaching 80% charge from 10% in just five minutes. However, the company’s claim of a full charge in ten minutes seems optimistic.

It’s more likely that the remaining time covers charging from 0 to 10% and 80 to 100%. This suggests that charging between 10% and 80% is the most efficient range. To achieve these speeds, a high-powered charger, likely exceeding 250 kW, is necessary. While SVOLT claims 500 to 600 kilometers of range during a coffee break, this statement lacks specificity.

The actual range depends on battery capacity and vehicle efficiency. For instance, a Lucid Air Pure equipped with a 100 kWh SVOLT 6C battery pack could potentially achieve 563 kilometers, but this assumes no efficiency loss due to increased weight. Larger battery packs often lead to decreased efficiency, as heavier vehicles consume more energy.

By prioritizing rapid charging, the company has developed an LFP-based cell capable of reaching an 80% charge in a mere ten minutes. This breakthrough combines the advantages of fast charging with the inherent safety and cost-effectiveness of LFP chemistry, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

While SVOLT also offers NMC-based Short Blade cells tailored for plug-in hybrids, emphasizing energy density, the LFP variant showcases the potential for swift charging without compromising battery lifespan or safety. This development underscores the company’s commitment to driving innovation in battery technology and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.
