Kia America has issued a recall for 14,163 units of the 2024 and 2025 model year EV9 electric utility vehicle. The recall is due to a software issue that can cause the digital instrument cluster to go blank intermittently at vehicle start-up. This issue can be a safety hazard, as it can impair the driver’s ability to monitor important vehicle information.

The issue was caused by an over the air software update that Kia America discontinued on September 2, 2024. Kia America began investigating the issue on August 22 after receiving complaints from customers. The recall affects vehicles produced between September 25, 2023 and May 27, 2024.

Kia America will notify owners of the recall by October 31. The recall will be remedied with an over the air software update. Dealers can also perform the update at no charge. In addition to the recall, Kia America is also investigating reports of a separate software issue that can cause the EV9’s infotainment system to freeze.

This issue is not considered a safety hazard, but it can be inconvenient for drivers. Kia America has not yet determined the cause of this issue, and there is no timeline for a fix. Kia America is urging owners of the EV9 to be aware of these issues and to contact their dealer if they experience any problems. The company is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
