Cupra, once a modest newcomer, has swiftly carved a significant niche in the European automotive market. By reimagining Volkswagen models with a distinctive flair and premium touches, the Spanish brand has captured the hearts of many. As Cupra continues its upward trajectory, it’s gearing up to introduce a range of new vehicles, including a subcompact electric hatchback.
Interestingly, this upcoming model, the Raval, is set to debut before its Volkswagen counterpart, the ID.2. Prototypes of the Cupra Raval have been spotted testing for several months, and the brand offered a look at its design with the UrbanRebel Concept in 2021. While the production model maintains the concept’s striking silhouette, it features a more refined and toned-down aesthetic.
The headlights are larger and rounder, and the front end has been simplified with the removal of the side vents and the central one being widened. The hood is shorter and the side mirrors are bulkier. The rear end also showcases a more subdued design, with flush-mounted door handles and a less aggressive diffuser.
The upcoming Cupra Raval, a compact electric vehicle, is set to redefine the segment with its sporty design and impressive performance. The sleek silhouette, accentuated by a thin light strip connecting the taillights and a backlit Cupra logo, hints at the car’s dynamic character. The prototype’s aero wheels, wrapped in specialized tires, further contribute to its efficiency and range.
Beneath the chunky black plastic cladding lies a supermini form factor, built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB Short platform. This platform will also underpin the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2 and Skoda’s electric offering.
The Raval is expected to feature a front-mounted motor and front-wheel drive layout, with the base model delivering 223 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in under seven seconds.
Two battery options are anticipated, with the larger 56 kWh unit enabling a range of 273 miles and the smaller 38 kWh unit catering to shorter commutes. A sportier variant of the Raval is also rumored to be in the works. The car is slated to debut in 2025, primarily targeting the European market, with potential for expansion to other regions.
