Ford has issued a recall for nearly 25,000 Super Duty trucks due to a faulty tailgate top-mounted rearview camera. The issue arises from water ingress into the Tailgate Park Assist Sensor Interface Module, causing intermittent camera function or a completely black screen.

This problem was first identified in February 2024 when a supplier reported a black screen on a 2023 model. Ford’s investigation revealed that out of tolerance connectors and an untested camera bracket were responsible for the water ingress.

Initially, the automaker believed the primary rearview camera and image processing module were unaffected. However, customer complaints of complete camera failures prompted a deeper investigation.

It was then discovered that water damage to the tailgate top camera’s interface led to corrosion in the Tailgate Park Assist Sensor Interface Module, ultimately disabling all cameras.

The affected trucks, produced between October 2022 and March 2024, will have their faulty components replaced at no cost to owners.

Ford will begin notifying owners in early December 2024. Despite this recall, the Super Duty remains a powerful and capable truck, offering impressive towing, payload, and torque figures.
