Skoda has introduced the Kylaq, its most affordable SUV, tailored specifically for the growing Indian market. Positioned in the highly competitive sub-compact segment, the Kylaq follows the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan as the third model developed in India by Skoda. This segment accounts for nearly half of all automotive sales in the country, making it a crucial battleground for automakers. With its compact dimensions and affordability, the Kylaq is set to compete with popular rivals in the fast-growing market, including models like the Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon.

The Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length, making it Skoda’s smallest SUV. It is positioned below the Kushaq and EU-spec Kamiq in size and even shorter than the EU-spec Fabia hatchback. Despite its small footprint, the Kylaq shares a similar wheelbase to the Kushaq, offering more interior space than its size suggests. This compact SUV promises practicality, with a segment-leading cargo capacity of 446 liters. Skoda claims the vehicle’s small size does not compromise interior space, making it suitable for Indian customers who prioritize both efficiency and roominess.

The design of the Kylaq follows Skoda’s Modern Solid styling language but incorporates simplicity to align with its budget-friendly positioning. The front features split LED headlights and a black grille, while the rear boasts taillights resembling those of the Hyundai Exter. The SUV also includes typical SUV styling elements such as plastic cladding, roof rails, squared-off wheel arches, and aluminum-style skid plates, giving it a rugged yet stylish appearance. The Kylaq is available in five exterior shades, including a new Olive Gold color.

Inside, the Kylaq is equipped with a digital cockpit, which includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and higher trims offer additional features like electric seats, automatic climate control, and an electric sunroof, catering to the preferences of Indian customers. Skoda has also emphasized safety, providing 25 active and passive safety features as standard, though more advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are not included.

Under the hood, the Kylaq features a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 113 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual or an optional automatic transmission, driving the front wheels. The Kylaq can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 188 km/h. Manufacturing of the Kylaq will take place at Skoda’s Chakan plant in India, and the SUV will be available for sale in early 2025 with a starting price of INR 789,000 ($9,400), making it a strong contender in the sub-compact SUV segment.
