A car crashed into a building after the driver was shot in the Gage Park neighborhood of Chicago on Tuesday morning.

At approximately 5:20 a.m., Chicago police reported that a 57-year-old man was driving a sport-utility vehicle with a 24-year-old passenger in the 3100 block of West 59th Street when a gold sedan fired shots at them.

Police stated that the driver was shot in the head, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash into both a building and a parked car.

The driver was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in critical condition.

The 24-year-old passenger was unharmed by the gunfire but was also taken to the same hospital for evaluation. He was reported to be in good condition.

Unconfirmed police dispatch reports suggest that the two men in the vehicle may have been father and son.

No arrests have been made, and police are actively investigating the incident while searching for the shooter. The building sustained significant damage due to the crash, and debris could be seen on the street.

Cleanup crews reported that the building houses an accountant’s office and were working to board up the front wall well into Tuesday afternoon.
