Hyundai has introduced the 2025 Ioniq 5 N, a high-performance electric vehicle that is set to hit U.S. dealerships in March 2024. This model is expected to add excitement to the electric vehicle segment, though pricing details are yet to be confirmed. The Ioniq 5 N shares many features with the international version, including the same E-GMP platform used by the standard Ioniq 5, but with key structural enhancements to ensure it delivers exceptional performance.
To improve the Ioniq 5 N’s handling, Hyundai has made significant structural upgrades. These include 42 additional welding points, extra adhesive layers, and reinforced mounting points for the electric motors and battery pack. These changes enhance the rigidity of the car, making it more stable and responsive, particularly when tackling high-performance driving scenarios. The reinforced subframes further increase the vehicle’s durability, ensuring it can handle the power of the dual motors while maintaining stability.
Powering the Ioniq 5 N is an 84 kWh battery that drives two electric motors—one in the front and one in the rear. The front motor produces 223 hp, and the rear motor generates 378 hp, combining for a total output of 601 hp. With N Grin Boost mode, this can be increased to 641 hp for 10-second bursts. This performance allows the Ioniq 5 N to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.25 seconds and reach a top speed of 162 mph. The vehicle is also equipped with fast-charging capabilities, able to charge from 10-80% in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW charger.
The braking system in the Ioniq 5 N has been designed for high-performance driving as well. It includes large 15.75-inch front rotors with four-piston calipers, paired with 14.2-inch rear rotors and single-piston calipers. Additionally, Hyundai has developed an advanced regenerative braking system that provides up to 0.6 g of deceleration. The car also features several driving modes, including N Race, which lets drivers select between endurance-focused settings or short bursts of sprint-like performance, along with modes for drag racing and track driving.
Inside, the Ioniq 5 N’s cabin has been specifically crafted for performance, with a new steering wheel featuring N-specific buttons, a fixed center console, and bucket seats to provide support during fast cornering. Hyundai has focused on sustainability, using eco-friendly materials like BIO PET yarn and recycled plastics throughout the interior. Available in several bold colors, including Performance Blue Matte and Soultronic Orange Pearl, the Ioniq 5 N is expected to be priced slightly higher than the Kia EV6 GT, potentially in the mid-to-high $60,000 range when it arrives in U.S. dealerships.
