In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident, an Ohio man threw his baby from a moving vehicle during a high-speed police chase. The chase, which began after the man fled from a Walmart parking lot, reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
The baby, who was in a car seat, was ejected from the vehicle and found on a busy highway. This incident has raised serious concerns about child endangerment and the lengths to which individuals will go to evade law enforcement.
The Chase Begins
The incident started when police in Bryan, Ohio, received a tip that Zachary Chervenka, a 32-year-old man with an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft, was at a local Walmart.
When officers approached Chervenka’s van, he sped off, leaving his girlfriend behind and taking their nine month old and five year old children with him. The chase quickly escalated, with Chervenka driving at dangerously high speeds and weaving through traffic.
As the pursuit continued, Chervenka’s van door remained open, and the car seat carrying the nine month old baby boy was ejected from the vehicle.
The car seat bounced multiple times off the grass before coming to a stop on the highway. The chase lasted 15 minutes before police decided to end the pursuit due to bad weather conditions.
During the pursuit, Chervenka made a phone call to his children’s mother, informing her that he had thrown the baby out of the car.
