Renault’s iconic compact electric vehicle, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, has been awarded the prestigious title of 2025 European Car of the Year.
This accolade, determined by a jury of 60 automotive journalists from 23 countries, underscores Renault’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
Reviving the beloved Renault 5 from the 1970s, the modern iteration, of Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, marries retro design with cutting-edge technology. It has garnered attention for its stylish aesthetics, advanced features, and affordability.
The judges praised its nostalgic yet futuristic design, along with its comfortable driving experience and the inclusion of state of the art technology typically found in higher-end models. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is equipped with a 121bhp electric motor capable of accelerating from 0 to 52 mph in just 9 seconds.
It offers a driving range of up to 248 miles on a single charge, making it a practical choice for both city commutes and longer journeys. One of its charming features includes an optional wicker basket for holding a baguette, a playful nod to its French heritage.

Adam Wood, Renault’s Managing Director, expressed delight at receiving the award. He highlighted the car’s accessibility and low running costs, which make it an attractive option for a wide range of consumers.
