Kia has revealed the second-generation Seltos, and the popular SUV is set to arrive in the UK and Europe for the first time next year. Slightly larger than the Niro but not as long, wide, or tall as the Sportage, the new Seltos has been positioned as an “expressive” alternative to Kia’s best-selling Sportage and will compete with the Volkswagen T-Roc, which recently entered a new generation.
The Seltos’ “lifestyle” focus is evident in its bold colour options, including Iceberg Green and Magma Red, and its ability to handle light off-roading. Its rugged design includes skidplates, and all-wheel drive is available, featuring a multi-link rear suspension and a selection of off-Tarmac driving modes.
The new Seltos shares the K3 platform with the Niro and Kona, and it offers a range of powertrains to meet diverse global customer needs. SE and SEL models are powered by a 147-hp 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a six-speed automatic, while the turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol is available in either 178-hp form with a six-speed manual or 192-hp form with an eight-speed automatic.
A hybrid variant is expected in 2026, likely using the Niro’s powertrain, which combines a 1.6-litre engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 139 hp. Kia has not yet confirmed which engines will be offered in the UK, but the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated option is unlikely due to strict emissions regulations.

To appeal to European and UK buyers, the Seltos comes equipped with premium features as standard, including a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a sunroof, second-row reclining seats, a head-up display, and 536 litres of boot space.
Since its 2019 debut, the Seltos has become one of Kia’s top-selling models globally, particularly in Mexico and India, where production will continue. Although previously sold in markets such as North America, Australia, and South Africa, the Seltos was not available in Europe or the UK because it did not meet EU safety and emissions requirements.
CEO Ho Sung Song emphasized the Seltos’ strategic importance, comparing it to the Sportage, which sold more than half a million units globally in 2025. Song explained that the success of the Sportage, particularly in the UK, created an opportunity to introduce the Seltos, with Kia targeting around 60,000 annual sales in Europe.
Addressing concerns about potential overlap with the Sportage or Niro, Song noted that the Niro focuses on fuel efficiency with hybrid options, while the Seltos hybrid will appeal to customers seeking a true SUV experience. A UK launch date and pricing are expected early next year, with a likely starting price around £30,000, comparable to the Niro and Sportage.
