Dacia revealed its upgraded Spring EV in October, and the electric city car now goes on sale from just £12,240 thanks to Dacia’s own £3,750 EV Grant.

The original Dacia Spring was deemed too basic for the UK market. However, the launch of a more refined Spring EV last year saw the model finally reach UK buyers, with prices starting from £14,995.

The earlier Spring EV offered either a 44bhp or 64bhp motor paired with a modest 26.8kWh battery, promising a range of around 140 miles. Despite this, the limited performance from the small motors made it primarily suitable for urban commuting.

Dacia has now addressed those limitations with the latest upgraded Spring, revealed in October. The update replaces the previous 44bhp and 64bhp motors with more powerful 69bhp and 99bhp versions.

These are paired with a new 24.3kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, which delivers the same 140-mile range while significantly improving 0-62mph times to 12.3 seconds for the 69bhp model and 9.6 seconds for the 99bhp variant.

Alongside the power and performance improvements, Dacia has revised the steering setup, added new springs and dampers, and fitted a proper anti-roll bar to enhance driving dynamics.

Perhaps the most notable update, however, is Dacia’s decision to match the maximum Electric Car Grant of £3,750 with an equivalent discount on the Spring EV. This means the 69bhp Expression model now costs just £12,240, while the 99bhp Extreme is only about a thousand pounds more.

While Expression models may not be extensively equipped, they still include essential features such as air conditioning, cruise control, front electric windows, rear parking sensors, and several safety assists.

The Extreme trims add front parking sensors, a rearview camera, heated electric door mirrors, and a 10″ Media Live infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Luke Broad, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, said:

“With the introduction of our Dacia Electric Car Grant, it makes buying and owning a Spring even more affordable. We’re in the business of making electric mobility accessible for all, and with our track record of delivering best-in-class value for best-in-class cars, it really doesn’t require a leap of faith to go electric.”

Deliveries of the upgraded Dacia Spring are scheduled to begin in spring, naturally. However, for those who can accept the outgoing Expression 65 model, delivery miles examples are available for under £10,000.
