Mitsubishi is set to make its return to the UK market in 2026, with the Outlander PHEV and L200 pick-up scheduled to arrive in limited numbers from the summer.

These two models will represent the brand’s first UK launches since 2020, when Mitsubishi suspended new model development for Europe and exited the market. The Colt Car Company ended its role as importer in 2021, subsequently selling the aftersales and parts business to IM Group.

IM Group confirmed toward the end of November that it will reintroduce new car sales for the Japanese manufacturer in the UK next year.

Sharon Townsend, head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: “While the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the Mitsubishi L200 are familiar, much-loved, and respected names in the UK, we will be introducing the very latest models, which feature significant design, technology, and performance upgrades over their predecessors.”

The latest Outlander PHEV has been comprehensively re-engineered and is now 2.5cm longer, 6.2cm wider, and 3.8cm taller than the outgoing model. It is powered by an updated 2.4-litre petrol engine paired with a traction battery and electric motors mounted on both the front and rear axles.

According to Mitsubishi, the new powertrain produces more than 300hp and delivers a total driving range exceeding 500 miles.

The twin-motor setup works in conjunction with the brand’s Super All Wheel Control system, which manages the distribution of driving and braking forces for improved traction and stability.

The L200 will also return to the UK in its latest Series 7 form. Mitsubishi’s pick-up lineage in the UK dates back to the mid-1980s, with cumulative sales surpassing 180,000 units across six generations.

The newest L200 features a revised 2.4-litre two-stage bi-turbo diesel engine that delivers increased power and torque over its predecessor.

Its Super Select 4WD II system allows drivers to switch between two- and four-wheel drive, use a centre differential locked full-time mode, engage a low-range centre differential locked setting, and select from seven driving modes: Normal, ECO, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

Final UK launch dates, pricing, and full specifications will be confirmed closer to the 2026 on-sale date.
