Garmin has revealed the Nexus high-performance compute (HPC) platform, powered by Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Elite for automotive, targeting vehicle programs starting in 2029.

The platform consolidates multiple vehicle domains, including in-vehicle infotainment, instrument clusters, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), into a single integrated system, delivering up to six times the compute performance of Garmin’s previous Unified Cabin domain controller.

The Nexus platform incorporates ADAS capabilities enabled by Snapdragon Elite, including localization, perception, vehicle control, and map functionalities.

The ASIL-compliant solution is scalable to single or dual system-on-chip designs for higher autonomy levels, and features a Garmin-engineered liquid-cooling system to ensure sustained operation under high computational loads.

Matt Munn, Executive Vice President and Managing Director at Garmin Automotive OEM, said: “We look forward to building on our past success by providing automakers with new solutions and feature sets that offer unparalleled capability, scalability and integration.”

Nakul Duggal, Executive Vice President and Group General Manager of Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Robotics at Qualcomm Technologies, added:

“These next-generation solutions deliver automakers unparalleled in-vehicle experiences, generative AI-driven personalisation, and advanced driver awareness capabilities,, setting a new benchmark for software-defined vehicle architecture.”

Garmin and Qualcomm first partnered on domain controllers in 2019, later collaborating on the first Unified Cabin iteration in 2022. The Nexus HPC platform represents the latest evolution of that partnership, aimed at supporting future software-defined vehicle architectures.
