Unlike some rivals, BMW had a stellar 2025. For the third consecutive year, the German automaker surpassed its previous sales record in the United States. The brand sold 388,897 vehicles last year, topping its 2024 total of 371,346, a gain of 17,551 units, or 4.7 percent.
These figures don’t include Mini. The British marque also had a strong year, posting a 9.3 percent increase over 2024 with 28,749 units sold. Together, the BMW Group delivered 417,646 vehicles in the U.S., compared with 397,645 the year before, a 5 percent increase.
As expected, the X3 continued to lead the pack. Buoyed by a completely redesigned generation, the compact luxury SUV saw 76,546 deliveries in its first full sales year, an 11.3 percent increase. Its global popularity remains strong, making the X3 BMW’s best-selling model worldwide in recent years.
Close behind was the X5, with 76,246 units sold, just 300 fewer than the X3. Considering the price difference between the two SUVs, this represents a remarkable achievement, and sales may rise further ahead of the all-new model’s debut later this year.

The 4 Series claimed third place, outselling the 3 Series once again. Combining all body styles, Gran Coupe, coupe, and convertible, the 4 Series reached 39,379 units in 2025, compared to 33,031 for the 3 Series. Even combining the 3 and 4 Series totals (72,410) still doesn’t surpass the X3’s sales, underscoring the SUV’s dominance.
BMW’s fully electric vehicles had a more challenging year. The i4, i5, i7, and iX all experienced declines. The i4 saw the smallest drop at 14.1 percent, while the i5 fell 21.5 percent. BMW EV sales were down 16.7 percent, totaling 42,484 units versus 50,981 in 2024.
In contrast, plug-in hybrids enjoyed strong growth. Sales reached 25,351 units in 2025, up 30.7 percent from 19,398 in 2024. While EVs still outsold PHEVs, the increase demonstrates growing consumer interest in electrified but non-pure-electric options.
BMW currently offers plug-in hybrid variants across the 3 Series (330e), 5 Series (530e), 7 Series (750e), X5 (xDrive50e), and XM. The XM, with just 1,878 units sold, is unlikely to be the top-selling PHEV.
