GM is recalling 20 Blazer EVs after identifying a parking brake harness defect traced back to an earlier recall repair caused by an internal parts catalog error.

A limited batch of 2024 and 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EVs is being recalled after a defect was found in the rear parking brake wiring harness. Depending on how the issue presents itself, the brake may either stop functioning altogether or activate without warning, both of which introduce potential safety concerns.

GM says the issue is connected to repairs performed during a previous recall campaign aimed at correcting the same problem last summer. During those repairs, some vehicles were fitted with the wrong replacement component due to an error within the company’s electronic parts catalog.

Even though the original recall called for replacement of the wiring harness, the ordering system permitted dealerships to select a part that failed to meet the required design standards.

According to GM, the incorrectly installed harness follows an alternative routing that does not properly shield the wiring from repeated flexing during normal operation. Over time, this can lead to wire damage, including short circuits or complete breaks.

Should the parking brake activate while the vehicle is in motion, the risk of a crash increases significantly. On the other hand, a brake that fails to hold while the vehicle is parked could allow it to roll away. Some drivers may also encounter situations where the vehicle cannot be shifted out of park.

Fortunately for Chevrolet, the scale of the recall is very small. Just 20 Blazer EVs are affected, including 15 vehicles from the 2024 model year built between July 3, 2023, and March 3, 2024, along with five 2025 models manufactured between September 11 and October 9, 2024.

GM became aware of the problem in mid-October after a brand quality manager filed a report noting that the electronic parts catalog had enabled dealerships to order the incorrect wiring harness. Although the automaker says it has not received any reports of accidents tied to the defect, it opted to move forward with a recall.

Owner notification letters will begin going out on March 9. Dealers have been instructed to install a revised harness that features an overmold sleeve, which is designed to better protect the wiring and reduce the risk of future failures caused by flexing.
