Mercedes-Benz has revealed a substantially updated version of its flagship S-Class, which is scheduled to go on sale later this year. The refresh is extensive, with more than 2,700 newly developed components introduced, representing over half of the vehicle.
Among the headline additions are heated seatbelts, an illuminated three-pointed star, and a revised active suspension system designed to further enhance ride quality.
While the overall powertrain lineup closely follows that of the outgoing model, every engine has been revised. For UK customers, the range will include two diesel options, the S 350d and S 450d, alongside petrol-powered S 450 and S 500 variants, plus the S 580e plug-in hybrid. All versions are powered by six-cylinder engines and come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive.
Mercedes-Benz says a series of technical updates have been implemented to improve efficiency and lower CO₂ emissions across the lineup. The S 580e plug-in hybrid benefits from a modest increase in power and now delivers a zero-emission driving range of up to 62 miles. A petrol V8–powered S 580 was also shown during the reveal, although this version is not expected to be offered to UK buyers.

Rear-wheel steering is now standard across the entire S-Class range, offering up to 4.5 degrees of rear-axle movement to improve low-speed maneuverability. An optional system increases rear steering to as much as 10 degrees, cutting the turning circle to less than 11 meters, which should make the large luxury sedan noticeably easier to handle in tight spaces.
Suspension updates include the latest version of E-Active Body Control, which builds on the existing air suspension setup. The system uses road-surface data collected from other vehicles to anticipate conditions ahead, allowing it to make real-time adjustments that further smooth out the ride.
Inside the cabin, Mercedes has introduced a new air filtration system capable of refreshing the interior air every 90 seconds, along with updated seat massage programs and the addition of heated seatbelts.
The infotainment system has also been upgraded with the latest Mercedes software, integrating Google Maps navigation and an enhanced AI-based voice assistant. A new MBUX Superscreen now merges the 14.4-inch central display and the 12.3-inch passenger display beneath a single, seamless glass panel.
UK specifications and pricing have not yet been announced. Production of the updated S-Class is already underway, with the refreshed model expected to arrive in UK showrooms later this summer.
