Hyundai has confirmed that the Hyundai Kona Electric now qualifies for the UK Government’s Band 2 £1,500 Electric Car Grant (ECG), making it the first Hyundai model to be approved under the scheme. The eligibility applies to the Advance, N Line, N Line S, and Ultimate trims, expanding access to the incentive across much of the Kona Electric lineup.
For customers using the Motability scheme, the grant significantly reduces costs, lowering the Kona Electric’s advance payment to £749. Hyundai emphasized that the model’s appeal remains rooted in its strong real-world credentials, including a driving range of up to 319 miles on a single charge and a generous standard specification.
These attributes continue to make the Kona Electric a competitive option for private buyers, fleet customers, and Motability users alike.
Commenting on the announcement, Ashley Andrew, president of Hyundai & Genesis UK, said the Kona Electric’s inclusion in the Government grant scheme helps create fairer conditions for buyers considering electric vehicles.

He noted that a lower retail price, an attractive fleet proposition, and a reduced Motability advance payment ensure that the Kona Electric’s combination of high specification, long-range capability, and affordability remains compelling, regardless of how customers choose to fund their vehicle.
Alongside the Government incentive, Hyundai also confirmed that its own Electric Car Grant, which launched in July 2025, will continue to run across the brand’s wider electric lineup until March 31.
Under Hyundai’s internal scheme, buyers can receive £3,750 off all Inster models, as well as £1,500 off the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N, Ioniq 6, Ioniq 6 N, and Ioniq 9.
Hyundai added that all Kona Electric orders placed from February 2 onward are eligible for the Government’s £1,500 Electric Car Grant, further strengthening the model’s value proposition at a time when demand for affordable, long-range electric vehicles continues to grow in the UK market.
