Ram and Jeep have recalled 456,287 trucks and SUVs over a defect involving trailer brakes and lighting that could raise the risk of accidents.

Ram and Jeep are issuing a recall for 456,287 vehicles after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified a flaw in the trailer brake and towing control module that could elevate crash risk. The recall applies to the 2024–2026 Jeep Wagoneer S, 2025–2026 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, 5500 Cab Chassis, as well as the 2026 Jeep Cherokee.

Federal documents explain that the defect may cause trailer turn signals not to flash, trailer brake lights to fail to illuminate when braking, and, in certain situations, the trailer’s electric brakes to stop functioning altogether.

NHTSA estimates that all 456,287 vehicles involved are affected by the defect. In addition, 2,871 Mopar tow-trailer modules are also included in the recall. Dealers will replace the faulty module at no cost, with owner notification letters scheduled to be sent beginning March 24, 2026.

This recall ranks among the largest Jeep-related safety actions in recent years. It exceeds the previous 331,000-vehicle campaign tied to rear springs that could detach while driving, a defect that raised concerns about potential loss of vehicle control.

The announcement also comes less than a day after reports that more than 80,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees required additional repairs following a flawed recall remedy. That rapid succession of recall-related news highlights the heightened attention Stellantis’ U.S. brands are facing from regulators and consumers alike, particularly regarding repeat fixes and quality control execution.

FCA US plans to replace the improperly designed trailer tow module with an updated version. The company says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the defect at this time, and VIN lookup availability will begin on February 10, 2026.

Stellantis ended 2025 with approximately 2.7 million vehicles recalled across its brands, placing it among the highest totals in the automotive industry. With more than 450,000 additional vehicles already recalled early in 2026, the automaker appears on track to maintain that unwanted distinction.

While identifying defects early is preferable to delayed action, the growing recall volume continues to reinforce a narrative Stellantis would prefer to escape: its trucks and SUVs remain frequent fixtures in recall headlines.
