The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has named the Porsche Taycan its 2026 Canadian Electric Car of the Year. The recognition highlights the all-electric sports sedan’s blend of performance capability, efficiency, and range-wide versatility.

The award forms part of AJAC’s annual Canadian Car of the Year program, which relies on structured evaluations conducted by professional automotive journalists.

Within the electric vehicle category, the Taycan secured top honors based on the jury’s assessment of its overall engineering, driving characteristics, and usability.

AJAC’s selection represents a significant endorsement from Canada’s primary automotive journalism body. The Taycan lineup delivers output ranging from 536 horsepower to 1,019 horsepower, with standard all-wheel drive fitted across all variants.

At the top of the range, the Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds, placing it among the fastest production EVs currently available.

Pricing for the Taycan 4S sedan begins at $136,200 CAD, while the Cross Turismo variant starts at $143,100 CAD.

AJAC’s evaluation process incorporates comparative testing and scoring across multiple criteria, including performance, innovation, and value. In announcing the result, the organization emphasized the Taycan’s comprehensive capability across its lineup.

Trevor Arthur, President and CEO of Porsche Cars Canada, stated that the award underscores the Taycan’s balance of driving dynamics, efficiency, and everyday practicality.

As Porsche’s first fully electric production vehicle, the Taycan represents a foundational model in the brand’s electrification strategy. All trims feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, though power outputs vary substantially by specification.

The Taycan 4S produces 536 horsepower and achieves 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds when equipped with the optional Launch Control system. At the performance extreme, the Taycan Turbo GT delivers 1,019 horsepower and reaches 100 km/h in just 2.2 seconds.

In Canada, the Taycan 4S sedan carries a starting MSRP of $136,200 CAD. Buyers seeking enhanced cargo capacity and increased ride height can opt for the Cross Turismo configuration, which begins at $143,100 CAD.

Both body styles are distributed through Porsche’s Canadian retail network, comprising 23 authorized centres nationwide. Porsche Cars Canada operates from its headquarters in Toronto, employing more than 70 staff members.

The company expanded its national presence in 2025 with the opening of the Porsche Experience Centre Toronto in Pickering, Ontario. Additionally, a Parts Distribution Centre located in Mississauga has supported the dealer network since 2019.

The AJAC recognition reinforces the Taycan’s standing within Canada’s growing EV market, positioning it as a benchmark for high-performance electric vehicles in the country.
