Infiniti has confirmed that its all-new QX65 will debut later this month, introducing a coupe-style luxury SUV designed to compete with models such as the BMW X6. The new vehicle will be officially revealed on March 26, with a public appearance scheduled for the New York International Auto Show in April.

Infiniti has struggled in recent years with defining a clear identity in the competitive luxury market. Rival brands have established stronger reputations, Genesis with its refined and muscular design language, and BMW with its emphasis on performance and driving dynamics.

To address this, Infiniti is working through what it describes as a “product renaissance,” introducing new models intended to refresh its lineup and strengthen its brand position. The upcoming 2027 QX65 is a key part of that strategy.

The new model is built on the same platform as the QX60, Infiniti’s current best-selling vehicle in the United States. While the QX60 offers three rows of seating, the QX65 takes a different approach. It adopts a sleek fastback roofline and a two-row configuration aimed at buyers seeking a more stylish and performance-oriented SUV.

This strategy follows a trend already used by several luxury automakers. For example, BMW pairs the X5 with the coupe-styled X6, while Audi offers the Q7 alongside the sportier Q8. Although coupe-style SUVs typically sell in smaller numbers than their traditional counterparts, they often serve as image-enhancing models that give a brand a stronger visual identity.

At launch, the QX65 is expected to use a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, which is already used across several Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the Murano. In the QX60, this engine produces 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque.

Power is delivered through a 9-speed automatic transmission, with buyers able to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

There are also indications that a more powerful version could arrive later. Industry rumors suggest a V6-powered variant may be introduced in the following year. The V6 engine currently remains available in the Nissan Pathfinder but was removed from the QX60 lineup in favor of a smaller four-cylinder engine, primarily to improve fuel efficiency and comply with tightening emissions standards.

If Infiniti does bring back the V6 for the QX65, it could pave the way for a high-performance Red Sport model. Such a version would give Infiniti a more direct competitor to BMW’s M Performance SUVs.

Infiniti says the new SUV will help accelerate “the brand’s momentum as it redefines its place in the luxury market.” The QX65 will follow the recently introduced QX80 as part of the company’s refreshed product lineup.

The automaker had previously announced plans for two fully electric vehicles, internally codenamed LZ1F and PZ1J, but recent reports suggest those projects may have been delayed or canceled.

The QX65 will make its public debut shortly after its reveal, appearing at the New York International Auto Show from April 3 to April 12, 2026.

Although the new model offers fewer seats than the QX60, its coupe-inspired design and more premium positioning could place it at a higher price point. The QX60 currently starts at $51,590, excluding destination charges, suggesting the QX65 may command a higher base price when it arrives.
