BMW’s new iX3 electric SUV is already off to a strong start. The company confirmed that more than 50,000 orders have been placed for the vehicle within the first six months of its launch, marking an encouraging milestone for BMW’s next generation of electric vehicles. Deliveries have already started in Europe, with the U.S. launch scheduled for later this year.

The iX3 is particularly important for BMW because it is the brand’s first model built on the new Neue Klasse EV platform. Demand for the vehicle has been strong enough that BMW previously announced plans to add a second production shift at its Debrecen factory in Hungary in order to increase manufacturing capacity.

Since making its debut at IAA Mobility in September 2025, the iX3 has accounted for roughly one-third of BMW’s electric vehicle orders in Europe. Early reports suggested the model had already sold out through the end of 2026.

Zipse also revealed during the event that the vehicle has accumulated more than 50,000 orders in just six months, highlighting strong early demand for the new EV.

BMW began delivering the iX3 to European customers earlier this month. The iX3 50 xDrive variant starts at €73,925 (about $85,200) in Europe. In the United States, BMW’s website indicates that the 2026 iX3 50 xDrive will begin at around $60,000.

Powering the new iX3 is a 108.7 kWh battery pack that delivers an estimated WLTP driving range of up to 805 kilometers (500 miles). In the U.S., the model is expected to achieve an EPA-rated range of around 400 miles.

The electric SUV is built on BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system using an 800-volt architecture. The iX3 50 xDrive produces up to 469 horsepower (345 kW) and 645 Nm of torque. The advanced electrical system also supports extremely fast charging, with peak DC charging speeds of up to 400 kW. According to BMW, this allows the vehicle to gain approximately 373 kilometers (231 miles) of driving range in about 10 minutes.

Inside, the iX3 introduces BMW’s new Neue Klasse interior layout. The cabin features a large 17.9-inch central touchscreen for navigation and infotainment. It also includes BMW’s Panoramic Vision 3D head-up display system, which projects information across the windshield for improved driver visibility and interaction.

Pricing could also help the iX3 compete strongly in the luxury EV segment. With a starting price of around $60,000 in the United States, it may undercut several rivals. Competing electric SUVs include the Genesis Electrified GV70, Porsche Macan Electric, Audi Q6 e-tron, Rivian R1S, and Mercedes EQS, many of which carry higher starting prices.

BMW also plans to expand the iX3 lineup later this year with a more affordable iX3 40 variant. That version will be available with both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, offering buyers additional choices depending on performance and range preferences.

Following the iX3 launch, BMW will continue rolling out vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform. The next model expected to join the lineup is the 2027 i3, which will become BMW’s first electric sedan built on the new architecture.
