Move over SUVs, Nissan is making a statement at the Auto China show with two brand new sedans! This comes after Mazda also revealed a new electric car, showing there’s still a strong market for sedans.
Nissan isn’t alone in China. Their local partner Dongfeng Motor helped create these concept cars, the Epoch (electric) and the Evo (plug-in hybrid). Although they’re concepts, Nissan assures us they’re close to production and will be on the road soon. The Epoch is expected to hit the market within a year, with the Evo following a little later.
Futuristic Sedans with Different Looks
Both sedans seem to be similar in size, but the Evo has a sportier design with a sloping roofline and a stylish rear end. Nissan has only revealed the interior of the Evo so far, and it features a minimalist approach with most controls on a large touchscreen display, similar to a Tesla. There’s still a digital instrument cluster for the driver, though, which seems a bit bigger than usual.
While the Evo name might make you think of high-performance cars, Nissan says this particular Evo is designed for family fun and weekend getaways. Both the Epoch and Evo will be entering a crowded market in China, where many carmakers still offer a variety of sedans.
SUVs Still Get Some Love
Of course, Nissan didn’t forget about SUVs entirely. They also showcased two SUV concepts at the Auto China show, the electric Epic and the plug-in hybrid Era. These SUVs share similar design elements with the new sedans and are expected to be available within the next three years. The Epic boasts fancy features like bidirectional charging, while the Era offers air suspension, comfy “zero-gravity” seats, and all-wheel drive.
