Not All Air Purifiers are Made Equally. Air ionizers release negatively charged ions into the air, which attract positively charged ions, such as dust and allergens, and then bind together with them. This makes particles much heavier than they were before. As a result, these over-weighted particles are no longer light enough to stay airborne and drop to the ground. The GP5212 is not an air ionizer, but rather a car air purifier that filters the air.     This Philips GoPure car air purifier makes a lot of asterisked claims. Personally, I ordered this because every summer, the AC in my Infiniti will emit a moldy towel/boys locker room stink that the dealership says there’s nothing they can do about. I know there’s a mold situation on my AC evaporator & it’s just blowing spores into the cabin through the vents. I got this in hopes that it will help to keep the air clean, but there’s really no way of testing whether or not it really works, aside from my anecdotal experience. The claims they make are based on tests that were performed under extremely controlled parameters, none of which include the actual use of this item in operation in a vehicle, so there’s that. In addition, you’ve got to know the electrical input of your car’s various outlets. A USB port likely won’t have the proper amperage, so you’ve got to use a car lighter port & adapter that’ll give you the power this requires. You’ve got a low & high option, which you can toggle between by pressing the top center of the device, right on the Philips logo (see pic - this took me a few minutes to find). The cord is long enough to reach an outlet that might be further away. I can’t afford to give up a front seat cup holder, so I put it in one of the third row cup holders & plugged it into the outlet in the cargo area. I wish the USB-C port on the device was a little higher up. It’s right at the level of the top of my cup holder, so the cord isn’t quite free from bumping into the side of the cup holder. I guess I could put something at the bottom of my cup holder to raise this up enough to clear the side, but then it might topple out when I make sharp turns. It turns on automatically when I start the car (at the low setting), and turns off when I turn off the car. I can’t reach it to change it to high, and it would be great if it remained in the last setting I entered after it restarts. So, a few design issues in my opinion, at a pretty high price for something that wasn’t tested in real-life use scenarios. My stinky AC issues haven’t begun yet since we’ve yet to reach summer temps, and I will certainly update this review if I find that this helps to ameliorate my issue.

      Works well! The Miss’s doesn’t complain about my truck smelling of smoke or ashtray. The two hour timer after the vehicle is off is a nice feature. Two speeds for fans. Looks sleek enough to be mounted in the open if space is an issue in your vehicle.

      Like that I have different placement options. It’s not too noisy. Auto comes on when vehicle is started and shuts off when vehicle shuts off too.

      Don’t like that it doesn’t keep the last fan speed setting. New vehicle here so I want it on high speed all the time to help get rid of those VOC’s, but when it turns on, the fan speed is always at low, and each time I start up the vehicle I have to manually change it to high speed. Very annoying when I’m starting and stopping such as running errands. And inconvenient if the filter isn’t in an easy spot to reach from the driver’s seat.

      The purifier shuts off every 2 hours. So at night it’s off. Filter lasts about a month and you change it it still looks new.. Buy replacement filter light never stops flashing saying change filter. Louder than expected but the fact it shuts off automatically is ridiculous.. why buy one that you got to keep turning on..

      Uber driver here. A BlueAir 511 was perfect in my old SUV but too big for my new T3 so tried the 5212. It works but is too slow even on high and its fan is much too noisy. Also, the T3’s 12VDC is actually 15.3 and fluctuates, often causing the 5212 to powercycle with much beeping (unacceptable).

      1. The cover does not stay in place where it should be at all. 2. I wanted to put it on the armrest and the mount that comes with it was not enough to secure it to the armrest. 3. When it is on the armrest, the fans blow directly into the driver's and passenger's hand. This is not comfortable. It would be better if it blew forward and backward. I would like to return this product, but my assistant threw away the box too quickly while I was trying to fit it in the car.
