Porsche's Strategy Ensures Taycan Continuity Amid Panamera's Transition to Electric Power

Porsche’s Taycan will continue to have its place within the brand’s lineup, even as the Panamera transitions to electric power, as affirmed by Kevin Giek, the head of the Taycan model line. In an interview with Autocar, Giek emphasized Porsche’s commitment to long-term sustainability in its model offerings.

“We have a high interest to keep it as a long-lasting car line, like the 911 – like we do with all our car lines,” said Giek. “When we decide to have a new model line, we don’t think about only having it for three or four years.”

Addressing how the Taycan will differentiate itself from the Panamera EV, Giek outlined Porsche’s vision to position the Taycan as an innovative representation of the brand’s electric sports car concept.

“We want to keep the Taycan as an innovator, to show what is possible and what is our definition of a BEV sports car,” said Giek. “We will continue to improve the car all the time.” Despite the similarities in dimensions between the Taycan and Panamera (with the latter being slightly larger), each model will serve distinct purposes.

“We think the segment of Panamera is more spacey, more luxury for its customers,” explained Giek. “It’s something different from what we see in the Taycan, which is more focused on sportiness – on real sports car behavior. They are different. […] Both make sense and we are sure we have the customers.”

Giek hinted at future technological advancements in performance for the Taycan, contrasting with the Panamera’s focus on luxury innovations.

Porsche’s broader electrification strategy targets achieving 80% electric vehicle penetration across its lineup by 2030.

With the recent electrification of the Macan crossover and imminent plans for the 718 range to go electric, Porsche demonstrates confidence in the distinctiveness and appeal of its electric offerings, aiming to attract enthusiasts beyond traditional combustion engines.
