By incorporating spinning modules, Vast seeks to create the world’s first microgravity research environment, offering unparalleled opportunities for scientific discovery and technological advancement.

This pioneering approach has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of low-gravity conditions, with profound implications for fields ranging from materials science and medicine to human physiology and space exploration.

Beyond serving as a cutting-edge research facility, Haven-1 could also serve as a proving ground for technologies and systems essential to long-duration space missions and potential future lunar or Martian settlements.

As such, Haven-1 represents a significant step forward in humanity’s quest to expand our presence and capabilities in space. Vast is set to redefine low-Earth orbit research with Haven-1, a modular space station scheduled for launch in the latter half of 2024.

Designed as a versatile platform for scientific exploration, the station will feature ten standardized payload slots, each capable of accommodating up to 66 pounds of experimental equipment and powered by a consistent 100 watts of electricity.

This configuration is optimized to support a wide range of research endeavors, particularly in the fields of healthcare, materials science, and biotechnology. To facilitate seamless communication and collaboration between the on-orbit crew and ground control, Haven-1 will be equipped with high-speed internet connectivity provided by Starlink. The station’s capabilities are further augmented through strategic partnerships with industry leaders Redwire and Yuri, both renowned for their expertise in space-based research.

Redwire brings a wealth of experience, having operated nine payloads aboard the International Space Station, with a particular focus on biotechnological investigations. Yuri contributes their advanced space biotech research platform, ScienceTaxi, to the Haven-1 ecosystem.

SpaceX’s proven Dragon spacecraft will serve as the vital transportation lifeline, ensuring the efficient transfer of astronauts, essential supplies, and experimental payloads to and from the orbiting laboratory.

As Vast opens the doors for applications to join the inaugural four-person crew, a diverse pool of candidates, encompassing both experienced astronauts and private individuals, is expected to emerge.

This pioneering mission marks a significant stride towards commercializing space exploration and unlocking the potential of low-Earth orbit as a dynamic hub for scientific discovery and technological advancement.
