To address this, Tesla updated its Safety Score system to version 2.1, pushing the Late-Night Driving interval to start at 11 PM instead of 10 PM. Initially used to assess eligibility for the FSD Beta program, the Safety Score evaluates driving behavior by analyzing metrics like Forward Collision Warnings, Hard Braking, and Excessive Speeding. It later became a factor in determining monthly premiums for Tesla Insurance, incentivizing safe driving habits.
Despite these changes, criticism persisted, particularly regarding the Late-Night Driving metric introduced with Safety Score 1.2. Version 2.0 attempted to refine the calculation by considering the time spent driving each hour between 10 PM and 4 AM. However, dissatisfaction remained, prompting Tesla to implement further adjustments in version 2.1.
