Apple is adding new features to iPhones and iPads to make them easier to use for everyone. One cool feature is called Vehicle Motion Cues. It helps reduce the chance of feeling sick when you’re in a moving vehicle and using your device to read or watch stuff.
“Research shows that motion sickness is commonly caused by a sensory conflict between what a person sees and what they feel,” explains Apple. “This can prevent some users from comfortably using iPhone or iPad while riding in a moving vehicle.” To address this, Vehicle Motion Cues will utilize sensors within your mobile devices to overlay animated dots around the edges of the screen during vehicle movement, such as turning, accelerating, or braking.
The animated dots will represent changes in vehicle motion by moving in the opposite direction. For instance, turning left will cause the dots to glide to the right if you’re facing forward in the vehicle. Similarly, accelerating will move the dots downward on the screen, while braking will move them upward.
This feature can be set to automatically display Vehicle Motion Cues when it detects you’re in a vehicle, or it can be manually activated via Apple’s Control Center overlay. Apple also announced that its CarPlay interface will receive several new accessibility features, including Voice Control, Color Filters, and Sound Recognition.
Apple hasn’t specified the exact release date for these new accessibility features on their mobile devices. However, it is anticipated that they will be integrated into iOS 18, expected to be announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) taking place from June 10–14.
