- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2023I think I've had this for a couple of years now and it's been a great little tool. Not only does it remove various sizes of oil filters, but I've also removed (carefully) a number of different sized stuck jar lids, five-gallon paint bucket lids, tightened swimming pool valves, held door knobs in place while I changed out the locks, and on and on. Will easily outlast me and be passed on to my kids to use. A great tool at a bargain price!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019I used this for the first time today changing the oil and filter in my standby generator. The last time I changed it, the filter gave me fits trying to get it out. Not only is it in a tight place, but even though it was hand tightened when put on, it was impossible to get off. I struggled with it for a long time, eventually getting it loosened with a large pair of pliers, so I browsed around Amazon and found this tool. It appeared to be about the right size and angle for the job, but I wouldn't know until the next time I changed the oil which was today. What a difference. Perfect fit around the filter and perfect angle to grasp it and perfect leverage to loosen it, even with the bad arthritis I have in my hands. I've always said every job goes easier when you have the right tools. For small oil filters, this is certainly the right tool. It saved me a lot of time a grief.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2013At first I thought I would return the item. It seemed too large and had worn marks; I know it's a tool and the markings dont matter as long as it works but mine appeared used.
Immediately I used it on a puralator oil filter of my 99 civic lx. The filter on the honda was difficult to reach and the handle of the plier came to good use. However, I had to turn the oil filter inches by inches or even by smaller degree to unscrew and the teeth of the plier peeled off the filter paint and dented it.
I havent yet used a socket and a ratchet to remove oil filter so not sure of the advantage of plier over them. But trying to replace a filter in the garage, cramped up under a car, the use of this plier was not very easy as it seems from the other reviews. No doubt, it would be a very handy tool for a lifted vehicle in a repair shop and mechanics dont have to own multiple sockets but for personal use, it gets a 3 or hardly a 4 star assuming the teeth of the tool dont lose the sharpness.
Now that i have it, i would recommend new buyers(use at home) to try the socket type filter remover first, which is cheaper by around 50% from local autostore and then maybe this one if the socket and a ratchet require en extender or the someone would be using the plier on multiple cars.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2021I see a review where the guy guessed wrong on what size to get. Think a little ahead of time, if you're too frugal with effort to go and measure your filter's diameter, or the filter is such that you can't access it for such a purpose as in my case (having a spare handy is always wise) because it sits too far down in the engine bay and is not readily accessible from the bottom of the vehicle (as in my case with the SUV having a skid plate).
So I had to guess and go but it wasn't that difficult of a guess. The 2004 Sequoia 4.7L has an almost amusingly small filter, so I went with the 12" oil filter wrench and it worked perfectly. These filters sit down far into the engine bay, so this wrench gave my reach the extension needed to reach the filter.
The larger wrench would surely be for large trucks and diesels, my SUV needed the smaller wrench, the standard sized cinching band oil wrench was clearly too large in diameter to get a grip on it and would have been awkward to reach that far down to use effectively anyway.
This is an excellent addition to my oil changing tools, as even the end cap type made to be used with a ratchet may have worked, but it would surely have had me about standing on my head to use it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019Bought this to work on a Ducati M900. The recessed design of the oil filter on the motorcycle required an alternative to the traditional oil filter wrench, and I'm pleased to report that this tool fit the bill perfectly.
The pliers are relatively low profile, so they can get good grip on minimal real-estate on the filter, which was a big perk fro me since I didn't have much to work with. The length of the handles wasn't a factor for me, but if I do ever need them for a car, there is a good length that I could reach with them comfortably.
In terms of grip strength, they performed well and were able to bite the grooves on several different filter brands I've used with the bike and spin them loose. They didn't have any grip problems despite ending up getting some oil coating in the process.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2018This set of pliers is perfect for removing oil filters from most light-duty cars and trucks. As long as you have the working room to use the pliers, you can't go wrong with this tool.
I have a Nissan Frontier and the oil filter for it is behind a small access door, above the front axle. There is very little room (without removing the whole belly pan) to remove the filter by hand, especially if you have larger hands.
I originally bought a 3/8 drive socket filter wrench, but with the small amount of working room I just couldn't get it to work. This set of pliers had the filter off in seconds.
It does deform the filter, so you will need to have enough room to spin the new filter on by hand. Luckily I do, so I can use this tool every time I change my oil.
Highly recommended if you have enough working room to manipulate the handle for this tool!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money
Really Please with these - Seem really strong compared to another make I had that fell apart and the hinge. These are used professionally, changing four or five Generator Filters every day. For the price, I will simply buy another set if they fail (Which I doubt).

É bem robusto e forte. A boca é maior do que o normal. Todavia, serve para inúmeras utilidades. Faz até o serviço de uma chave de grifo a depender da situação.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Tool. And Tekton makes tools of great quality.
I'm one of those people that have tried different options for tightening fuel filters. Those socket attachments, the auto gripping socket attachment claw things, the wire ones that wrap around the filter, etc. And I have to say nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, gives me more confidence when putting on a fuel filter than these fuel filter pliers. Literally every other tool is a sham. Everything else has slipped at least once, or require that you keep the oil filter and tool absolute clean of all oil/lubricants. Which if you work in a shop and work on cars doing multiple oil changes is a high expectation. With this wrench, I know that I can go into an oil change able to remove my filter and put another on to a snug tightness. Seriously an absolute gem of a tool.
Also, to anyone that's questioning Tekton's quality, I've owned several tools from Tekton. As far as I'm aware, these guys are an Amazon only brand. But so far everything has been holding up superbly well. My torque wrench and breaker bar have been of high quality and well built. Even this wrench is great quality. So please, don't be afraid of getting Tekton tools. Sometimes they are cheaper than the big brands while offering similar if not more superior quality.
