Tesla’s Model Y electric SUV has seen its price slashed for the second time in less than three weeks in Australia, making it even more accessible to customers. The latest adjustment brings the starting price just above $60,000. According to Tesla, the entry-level Model Y rear-wheel drive (RWD) now begins at $60,900 before on-road costs, marking a $3000 reduction from the price announced just 19 days ago.

This cut follows a previous reduction of $4500 earlier in the month. The Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant sees a similar price drop, now priced at $69,900 before on-roads, down $3000 from the last update and a significant $8500 decrease for the month. Meanwhile, the Performance AWD model maintains its price at $82,900.

Among the notable changes for the 2024 Model Y is new black ‘Gemini’ wheel covers for the base and long-range versions, along with the introduction of three new optional exterior colors. However, Australia will not receive certain updates seen in the Chinese-delivered Model Y, such as extended driving range, RGB interior ambient lighting, and a textile dashboard material.

While a comprehensive update codenamed Juniper is expected next year, similar to the recent Model 3 Highland facelift, customers ordering a Model Y today can expect delivery between April and June 2024. With 6835 units delivered, the Model Y stands as Australia’s best-selling electric car to date, surpassing the Model 3 sedan, according to VFACTS data compiled by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
