The Tesla Cybertruck is getting even more updates, making it clearer why Tesla didn’t reveal much at its launch event. The company is getting ready to send out another big software update for the electric pickup truck, following one in February. This new update focuses mainly on improving off-road features, but there are also some enhancements for driving on regular roads.

The update includes an Off-Road driving mode with two settings: Overland and Baja. These settings allow drivers to adjust the truck’s settings for different terrain types, such as Rock or Sand. They can also choose whether to activate a brake holding feature, adjust the ride height, activate rear-wheel-steering, lock the differentials, and more. Digital gauges show information like heading, pitch, and roll in degrees.

Wes Morrill, the lead engineer for the Cybertruck, explained these features in posts on X. The locking differentials help in situations where a wheel has limited traction by directing torque to the opposite wheel. This feature is particularly useful for getting the truck unstuck. The Baja Mode improves vehicle balance and handling, especially when Stability Assist is set to Minimal.

Other features in the update include Trail Assist, which is like off-road cruise control, a camera feed for surround-view while driving off-road, and Cybertent Mode, which levels the truck and keeps the tonneau cover open for camping. For driving on regular roads, there’s a Slippery Surface terrain control for better traction in ice and snow, and tweaks to the adaptive suspension for improved ride quality with different payload weights. A Vitals page displays important data like battery and motor temperatures and tire pressures.

Despite these updates, it may still be a while before the Cybertruck gets all the features promised at its launch. Tesla has also released a 22-page Off-Road Guide with more information on the new systems. There are reports that Tesla’s upcoming Spring Release software update could bring even more features to the Cybertruck and other Tesla models.
