Elon Musk’s company, Tesla, has sued an Indian battery maker for using the name “Tesla Power” to sell its products. They want the Indian company to stop using their name and pay for damages. This happened in a court in New Delhi.
Tesla said the Indian company kept using the name “Tesla Power” even after they told them to stop in April 2022. The Indian company, Tesla Power India Pvt Ltd, said they only make lead acid batteries and don’t plan to make electric cars.
The judge gave the Indian company three weeks to give their side of the story in writing. Tesla is based in Delaware, and they say the Indian company is also using names like “Tesla Power” and “Tesla Power USA”.
Tesla said they found out about this in 2022 and tried to make them stop, but they didn’t listen. So, they had to take them to court.
This happened after Elon Musk cancelled his trip to India in April to meet the Prime Minister. Instead, he went to China. The next hearing for the Tesla India trademark case is on May 22.
