Tesla has been firing a lot of people recently, even those who are important to the company. When a company does big layoffs like this, people wonder how they tell the workers.
Thanks to the Verge, we now know how Tesla workers found out they were losing their jobs. One person who got fired shared the email they got with the Verge. The email was both cruel and strange. It started with a long, repetitive sentence:
“I am reaching out to let you know that after a careful review of your permanent work restrictions and your role, it was determined that there was no reasonable accommodation that would enable you to perform the essential functions of your position in your role.”
The email keeps saying “your role” over and over, which is weird. It also talks about “permanent work restrictions,” but doesn’t explain what that means. It’s not clear if it’s about things like flexible hours or if it just means doing the job you were hired for.
The email says they’ll try to find another job for the person within Tesla, but then it says they don’t expect to have any openings soon. This doesn’t sound good for the company’s future if they can’t hire more people.
Tesla doesn’t usually work with unions, so maybe they don’t want to lay people off so suddenly and harshly. When people feel unhappy and unsure about their jobs, they might come together and try to make things better. Just something to think about.
