Tesla recently made its “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) technology cheaper and offered a free trial for one month, but it didn’t make a big impact. Only a small number of people who tried the trial decided to pay for FSD.

Out of nearly 3,500 Tesla owners who tried the free trial, only about 2% chose to pay for FSD. That’s around 50 people. Even though CEO Elon Musk has made big claims about FSD, it’s still considered a Level 2 driving system, not fully autonomous. This might have made some owners hesitant to pay the $8,000 price or the $99 monthly fee.

Tesla sells some of the most popular electric cars in the world, but its FSD rollout has been slow. There have also been doubts about how well it works in real-life situations. After being tested by owners for a few years, Tesla removed the “beta” label and renamed it “Supervised.” The current version, 12.3, offers driver assistance features, but it can’t drive the car without a driver paying attention.

Tesla’s Autopilot system, which includes advanced cruise control features, is also under scrutiny. Regulators are asking for data on how Tesla’s cars monitor drivers and take control if needed. Tesla has recalled all its cars to fix some issues, but there have still been over 20 crashes involving cars that were fixed after the recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has asked Tesla for information about every car it has sold in the United States. They want details about Autopilot warnings, how many miles the cars have driven before and after the recall, and how many times the cars have warned drivers to keep their hands on the wheel.
