Earlier this year, Tesla introduced the new Model 3 Performance, designed to give car enthusiasts an extra thrill. It’s smaller and cheaper than the Model S Performance, but it comes with upgrades like a new chassis and adaptive damping, which help it handle better and accelerate faster.
The Model 3 Performance boasts some impressive numbers. It has 510 horsepower, 547 lb-ft of torque, and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. Its top speed is 163 mph, proving it’s as fast as its name suggests.
However, there’s a downside: its range is lower than before. Initially, Tesla said it could go 296 miles on a single charge, down from the previous model’s 310 miles. While it’s not a huge drop, it’s still disappointing for potential buyers.
Deliveries were supposed to start in May or June, but Tesla had to postpone them while waiting for the official EPA range figures. Thankfully, when the figures came in, they were better than expected. The EPA rated the Model 3 Performance with a range of 303 miles, seven miles more than Tesla’s estimate, which is a significant milestone for many buyers.
The price of the Model 3 Performance started at $52,990 but later increased to $54,990. This slight increase keeps it just under the $55,000 threshold for eligibility for a $7,500 tax credit. Adding extras might make you lose that credit, but at least the car can go seven miles further than initially thought.
