A Cybertruck owner found a solution to the truck’s dust and fingerprint issues by polishing it to a mirrored finish.
Tyson Garvin from Missouri wanted to polish his Cybertruck from the day he pre-ordered it five years ago. Finally, in April, he got his truck, but he wasn’t happy with how it looked.
“It was actually very dirty when I picked it up. It was a very bad delivery experience. And just the look of it — the dull stainless steel isn’t evenly brushed,” Garvin said.
Garvin asked Brylee Waits, who runs a polishing business, to help him polish his truck. Waits mainly works on semi-trucks but took on the challenge.
“It just kind of grew from there,” Waits said. “It’s something that I could pass down to my kids and we could live a lifestyle where I don’t have to struggle every day.”
It took about a week and 120 man-hours for Waits and his team to complete the job.
Garvin said the polished truck looks much better and is easier to maintain.
“It doesn’t have all the porous stainless steel that holds all the oil from your fingerprints,” Garvin said. “The more you clean it, the shinier it gets.”
After Garvin shared the finished truck on social media, Waits received more than 60 inquiries about polishing other Cybertrucks.
Some people wondered if the mirror finish would be a road hazard. Garvin said he hasn’t had any issues, and the reflection from the tailgate faces downward toward the road.
“There’s been a lot of talk on the internet from people saying whether someone could polish the Cybertruck or not,” Garvin said. “Most people said you couldn’t because of certain kinds of stainless steel used in the manufacturing process, but none of that mattered. They just didn’t know any better.”
