Toyota’s 2024 Kluger model sees an increase in pricing across all variants, marking a rise of just over $2600 without any modifications to its specifications. The decision to revise the prices has been attributed to escalating costs and inflationary pressures both domestically and internationally. While every model has seen a price hike, the Kluger Grande 2WD received a slightly lower increase, falling short of $2630 by just a few dollars.
As of March 4, 2024, the entry-level GX 2WD now starts at $54,420 before on-road costs, indicating a $6770 increase since the model’s debut in 2021. However, it’s worth noting that the initial version was equipped with a 3.5-litre V6 engine, unlike the current turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder powertrain.
The hybrid variant, Kluger GX eFour, starts at $60,920 before on-road costs, reflecting the same $6770 surge compared to earlier iterations. On the higher end, the top-tier Kluger Grande eFour Hybrid now stands at $82,860 before on-road costs, marking the most expensive variant in the Kluger’s Australian lineup.
The non-hybrid versions of the Toyota Kluger are powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 198kW of power and 420Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, distributing power to either the front wheels or an all-wheel drive system.
On the other hand, the Toyota Kluger Hybrid employs a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating 142kW and 242Nm. This engine works in tandem with three motor generators – one on the front axle and two on the rear. The total system output is 184kW, and the power is transmitted to all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The non-hybrid Kluger variants, powered by the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive, claim fuel consumption of 8.3L/100km on the combined cycle. The Kluger GX and GXL variants are equipped with the same engine but with all-wheel drive and achieve a claimed 8.5L/100km on the combined cycle, while the Grande variant’s figure slightly increases to 8.7L/100km.
All Toyota Kluger Hybrid variants boast a claimed fuel consumption of 5.6L/100km on the combined cycle. Measuring 4966mm long, 1930mm wide, and 1755mm tall, the Toyota Kluger rides on a 2850mm wheelbase.
The boot space with all three rows of seating upright is stated as 241L, expanding to 552L with the third row folded and further to 1150L with both the second and third rows folded. The towing capacity for all Kluger variants is 2000kg when braked and 700kg when unbraked.
Toyota offers a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for the 2024 Kluger. Additionally, the engine and driveline can be covered for up to seven years, while the hybrid’s high-voltage battery receives a 10-year coverage, provided the vehicle is maintained within the Toyota dealer network.
The 2024 Toyota Kluger earned a five-star ANCAP safety rating in 2021. It comes equipped with seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), pedestrian detection (day/night), cyclist detection (day), junction assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, emergency steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, traffic sign recognition, reversing camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The Grande variant additionally receives a surround-view camera.
The Kluger is available in three trim levels: GX, GXL, and Grande. The entry-level GX model comes with features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic parabola LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless and wired Apple CarPlay, DAB+ digital radio, three-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, leather-accented steering wheel, and fabric upholstery.
