Volkswagen is adding a sporty touch to its electric Kombi revival, the ID. Buzz, with the introduction of the ID. Buzz GTX. This sporty version of the iconic van has been teased by Volkswagen Commercial ahead of its upcoming debut.
While Volkswagen Australia has expressed interest in bringing this model to market, official confirmation is still pending.
The ID. Buzz GTX shares design cues with the electric ID.4 GTX and the brand’s GTI lineup, featuring a flat-bottom steering wheel, red accents in the interior, unique fog lights, wheels, and trim finishes on the exterior. The inclusion of adaptive dampers and a lowered suspension is also anticipated to enhance its sporty demeanor.
Underneath its stylish exterior, the ID. Buzz GTX will boast a 250kW dual-motor drivetrain, delivering up to 30kW more power than the ID.4 GTX SUV.
Currently, the standard ID. Buzz comes with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 150kW and 310Nm of torque, paired with a 77kWh battery pack.
With this setup, the ID. Buzz achieves a 0-100km/h sprint in 10.2 seconds and offers a range of up to 425km based on WLTP testing. It can be fast-charged at rates up to 170kW and AC charged at rates up to 11kW. The long-wheelbase seven-seat variant of the ID. Buzz features a 250mm longer wheelbase, measuring 4962mm in length.
Equipped with an 85kWh battery and a more potent 210kW rear electric motor, it offers enhanced performance. The ID. Buzz SWB and ID. Buzz Cargo is expected to arrive in Australia by December 2024, with the long-wheelbase model slated for release in the first half of 2025.
