Volkswagen introduces the ID.7 GTX Tourer, a performance-oriented electric station wagon boasting 335 horsepower and all-wheel drive, following the earlier debut of the ID.7 Tourer.
Unlike its rear-wheel drive counterpart, the GTX variant features electric motors on both front and rear axles, delivering a combined output surpassing that of a Golf R.
“The rear axle has an efficient permanent magnet synchronous motor that gives the driver full power from when the vehicle is switched on,” explains Volkswagen’s approach. “The asynchronous front motor is activated when more power is required and does so in milliseconds.”
Enhanced power distribution between the front and rear axles, coupled with upgraded all-wheel drive control and electronic differential locks, enhances the ID.7 Tourer’s handling and stability. Notably, ESC Sport mode allows for spirited driving while maintaining stability control, while adaptive chassis control is available as an optional extra.
In terms of battery capacity, the ID.7 GTX features an 86 kWh battery, larger than the standard version, offering extended range potential. Charging efficiency is also notable, with the ability to recharge from 10-80% in less than 30 seconds when connected to a DC charger.
Design-wise, the ID.7 GTX distinguishes itself with sportier elements, including a more pronounced front bumper, distinctive daytime running lights, and a honeycomb air intake grille. The model also features exclusive 20-inch Skagen wheels, with options for 21-inch wheels.
Noteworthy interior enhancements include supportive seats, customizable proactive front seats, and advanced tech features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, augmented reality head-up display, and Volkswagen’s proprietary voice assistant, IDA, and ChatGPT.
Safety features abound, including road sign assist, automatic emergency braking, and advanced driver-assistance systems like Park Assist Plus and Connected Travel Assist.
Pre-sales for the ID.7 GTX are set to commence in the spring, although availability in the United States remains uncertain due to the absence of the standard model. However, Volkswagen’s plans for the ID.7 sedan and ID. Buzz GTX suggests an exciting lineup ahead for American dealerships.
