Volkswagen has revealed the ID.Buzz GTX, a high-performance electric van boasting 335 horsepower and dual-motor capability, is set to hit European roads adorned with the sporty GTX badge.

While the GTX moniker remains exclusive to Europe, Volkswagen has confirmed that the same potent all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain will make its way to the United States the U.S.-bound long-wheelbase ID.Buzz will receive this formidable AWD setup, although it won’t bear the GTX name.

With the recent introduction of the 322-horsepower ID.3 GTX hot hatch and the 335-horsepower ID.7 GTX Tourer, Volkswagen is expanding its lineup of sporty electric vehicles under the GTX subbrand. The ID.Buzz joins this electrifying trend, featuring a robust dual-motor powertrain delivering 335 horsepower.

While Europe will enjoy short- and long-wheelbase options, only the elongated ID. Buzz will be available in the United States. They are powering the ID.Buzz GTX is a 107-horsepower motor on the front axle and a 282-horsepower motor on the rear axle, ensuring dynamic all-wheel-drive performance.

While Volkswagen has not disclosed acceleration figures, the van’s top speed is electronically limited to 99 mph. Two battery options are offered for the GTX in Europe, providing either a 79.0-kWh or an 86.0-kWh capacity.

Fast-charging capabilities are impressive, with both batteries capable of reaching 80% charge from 10% in approximately 26 minutes at DC fast-charging stations.

In terms of design, the European GTX models feature custom bumpers reminiscent of other GTX models, although the GTX badging and specific equipment won’t be present in the U.S.-bound version. Inside, the ID.Buzz GTX stands out with a black headliner, GTX-specific seats with red accents, and a steering wheel adorned with red stitching.

European variants of the long-wheelbase van offer seating configurations for either five or seven passengers. Technological advancements abound in the ID.Buzz GTX, with the latest iteration of Volkswagen’s infotainment system featuring a voice assistant with ChatGPT integration.

The touchscreen has been enlarged to 12.9 inches, and a new exit warning system alerts passengers to approaching vehicles or cyclists when opening doors. Moreover, the long-wheelbase model offers a panoramic sunroof with “smart glass” functionality, allowing it to switch from transparent to opaque at the push of a button.

As the ID.Buzz’s U.S. debut draws closer this fall, and further details regarding the AWD powertrain and available options for American consumers are expected to emerge.
