There are many cool cars in Europe that people in America can’t buy. These include fancy BMW wagons and unique electric cars. But there’s some good news! Cupra, which is part of Volkswagen (VW), is planning to bring two new models to the United States. They’ll have an electric Formentor crossover and a bigger SUV.
These electric cars might not be what car fans were hoping for, but they’re great for everyday drivers. Cupra makes cars in North America, including Mexico. They haven’t said exactly how they’ll sell these new cars, but they’re working on a new plan. Cupra’s sales went up a lot last year, and now they want to sell cars in the United States too.
But Cupra won’t be selling cars all over the country. CEO Wayne Griffiths said, “We want to sell this crossover SUV in Mexico and use our connections within the brand group. Cupra will start in some states where we know people like Cupra and will want to buy them. These states are mainly on the East and West Coasts and in the Sun Belt.”
This isn’t the only new brand coming to the U.S. from Volkswagen. Scout, an old American brand, is making a comeback with a new electric SUV and pickup truck. They’ll be joining VW’s other brands in America.
Volkswagen itself is facing some challenges, though. Their costs went up, and they’re not as productive as they used to be. To fix this, they might have to make some changes, like laying off workers or cutting costs in other ways.
