Volkswagen has decided to delay the launch of its new ID.7 electric sedan in North America. Originally, the car was supposed to go on sale sometime in 2024. Now, Volkswagen says they are postponing the launch due to changes in the market. They haven’t given a new date for when the ID.7 will be available.

The reason behind the delay seems to be unexpected demand for the ID.7 and its wagon version, the ID.7 Tourer, in Europe and Germany. Volkswagen mentioned that after introducing the ID.7 Tourer, there has been higher demand for these models than they anticipated, especially in Germany. While deliveries will continue in Europe and China, Volkswagen is waiting for the right moment to introduce the ID.7 to the North American market.

The decision might also be influenced by the increase in SUV sales in the U.S. during the first quarter, which rose by 27.5%. This suggests that there might be more demand for SUVs than electric sedans at the moment. Without a specific date for the launch, it’s uncertain when exactly the ID.7 will be available in the U.S.

For now, Volkswagen is focusing on launching the 2025 ID. Buzz in the fourth quarter of 2024, and they remain committed to selling the ID.4 in the U.S.
