At the airport, never spend money on bottled water.

Liquids are not permitted through security, although an empty water bottle is permitted. Water fountains abound in most airports, and many include a unique pump for fast refilling bottles.  Simply request a refill from your flight attendant. They might even put ice in it if you're lucky.

The Same Can Be Said for Airport Food.

Fresh food is not permitted through customs in some countries. It's preferable to finish any meals from your first location before landing if you're flying abroad.  It's a terrific strategy to save money as long as it's something substantial, such as a sandwich or a cup of coffee.

To prevent having to check a bag, freeze your beverages.

If you have a liquid that is more than 3 ounces and don't want to pay to check a bag, try freezing it so that it passes through the security scanner as a solid. Even if it melts a little on the way to the airport, if it's stored properly, it shouldn't be a problem.

Exchanging money at the airport is nearly never worthwhile.

For foreign travel, the airport is the worst place to exchange money. Currency exchanges are available at most banks and shopping malls at more stable rates.  If you forget, instead of stopping at the airport, acquire enough money to take a taxi into the city and go to a local bank.
