As travel restrictions become a thing of the past, aviation conferences are experiencing a resurgence, dispelling the notion that virtual meetings would dominate post-pandemic business interactions.

With conferences drawing large crowds worldwide, it’s reassuring to see a focus on turboprop safety, particularly with an upcoming conference. The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) recently announced its hosting of the Asia and Pacific Turboprop Safety Conference on June 26th and 27th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Unlike previous conferences focused solely on the Asia-Pacific region, this event encompasses both regions, recognizing the dispersed nature of turboprop operators across the Pacific and its islands.

AAPA has been actively engaged with turboprop operators in the region since 2014, acknowledging their vital role in maintaining essential air links, especially during the pandemic’s peak.

Highlighting the industry’s commitment to safety, AAPA Director General Subhas Menon emphasized the conference’s importance in promoting safety and excellence across all sectors of commercial aviation.

The initiative aims to support the numerous operators in Asia and the Pacific, serving crucial airline services to cities and remote areas. Turboprop operations in these regions pose unique challenges, often involving flights to aerodromes with short gravel or grass runways in hot and high-altitude conditions, testing both aircraft and pilots.

Practical sessions at the Asia and Pacific Turboprop Safety Conference in Kuala Lumpur will facilitate knowledge exchange and collaborative progress in aviation safety.

Featuring speakers from major industry players like ATR, Pratt & Whitney, CAE, Flight Safety Foundation, and L3Harris, topics include enhancing pilot safety, information sharing among operators, safety culture, flight data management, and engine operations best practices.

In addition to formal sessions, the conference provides ample networking opportunities for operators, roundtable discussions, and breakout sessions tailored to specific aircraft types and engine options.

Covering emergency response, safety culture, flight data monitoring, and operational considerations, the conference extends a warm invitation to all turboprop operators in the Asia-Pacific regions.
