EHang has long been recognized as a prominent player in the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) industry, but a new contender has emerged with equally ambitious aspirations. While EHang pioneered fully autonomous electric air taxis, TCab Tech aims to introduce China’s first domestically-produced tilt-rotor eVTOL.

Established in 2021 by a team of enthusiastic young engineers, TCab Tech swiftly obtained approval from the Civil Aviation Administration in China (CAAC) for type certification of their flagship aircraft, the E20, by the end of 2023. If their trajectory continues as planned, the E20 will achieve full certification by 2025.

Distinguished by its tilt-rotor design, the E20 marks a significant milestone as China’s first aircraft of its kind. Combining a conventional T-tail layout with four tilt- and two lift rotors, the E20 is designed to operate as an urban air taxi, accommodating a pilot and up to four passengers, covering distances of up to 200 km on a single charge at speeds of 260 kph.

With the name “TCab” symbolizing “time cab,” the startup aims to offer fast and comfortable airborne transportation, catering to both inter-city travel and aerial sightseeing in urban areas. Targeting markets in China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, TCab Tech has secured orders for over 200 units of the E20, including contracts with prestigious aviation groups.
