ITA Airways is gearing up to launch its inaugural flight from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Toronto Pearson International Airport, set to commence on May 10. This new route signifies the airline’s expanding focus on North America, marking its first direct entry into the Canadian market following the recent inauguration of its service to Chicago.
The forthcoming Toronto route will initially operate six times a week, utilizing ITA Airways’ Airbus A330 fleet, with plans to increase the frequency of daily flights during the peak summer season from June to September.
Emphasizing the significance of this route, ITA Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, Emiliana Limosani, underscored its role in bolstering connections between North America and Italy, highlighting North America as ITA’s primary market after its home country.
This expansion into North America aligns with ITA Airways’ strategic objectives for the Summer 2024 season, as outlined by Limosani in October. The airline is committed to enhancing its intercontinental network, with a specific focus on North America.
The addition of the Toronto route follows the recent launch of nonstop flights to Chicago from Rome Fiumicino. These developments are made possible by ITA Airways’ fleet renewal program, which includes the introduction of state-of-the-art aircraft such as the Airbus A321neo and A220-100.
As ITA Airways continues to expand its transatlantic operations, discussions regarding its proposed merger into the Lufthansa Group remain ongoing. While concerns regarding competition in certain routes, particularly those to North America, persist, ITA Airways remains focused on providing travelers with convenient and efficient connections between Europe and North America.
